Bullied 8th-grader was beaten, called a Nazi

School districts tell us they have a "zero tolerance" policy on this kind of garbage. For those of us who don't have the luxury of sending our kids to a private school - or are ideologically in support of public schools - this is a serious matter.

Slay That Green Dragon

Here on OpEdNEws, I haven't seen one single article supporting Hillary. It's not because we haven't accepted them. Matter of fact we welcome cogent, well written articles supporting ANY candidate, since we trust our readers to respond and balance out the perspective in the comments section.

It appears that the concensus of the readers and writers on this site, most of whom were Kucinich, Edwards or Paul supporters, are, except for the Paul supporters, now leaning towards Obama. .

New Louisiana Tech blog: Rare WAC road win big for progressing ...

One thing Louisiana Tech football coach Derek Dooley noticed early on during the 2007 was the lack of his team's defensive front four to rush the quarterback in non-blitz situations. The Tech coach said that hurt the team because the Bulldogs had to blitz in order to pressure the quarterback, and blitzes usually leave an opening somewhere else.Openings often exploited by opposing defenses. Openings Dooley feels can be closed when opposing offenses don't know when to expect the blitz, which necessitates a solid rush from your front four to begin with.Dooley and Co. targeted a JUCO defensive lineman to help provide a little experience and hope that Kwame Jordan from Fort Scott (Kan.) Community College fills the bill.Recruited by the likes of Arkansas, Marshall and West Virginia according to PelicanPreps.com, Jordan (6-5, 245)ranked No.

HOT live music at Super Thursday!

He did it well, too, pumping out a tight set that turned the massive crowd here into a sea of bouncing heads.

Hip-hop/R&B group Next took the stage after Pokafase. They pretty much walked off the red carpet and onto the stage.

Joey Fatone just walked by me.

Anyway, Next sounded impeccable. Their smooth groove was perfect for slow dancing in this brisk weather. They ended their set with their single "Wifey," and left the stage to DJ Roonie G, who spun a scribble fest filled with fierce beats and samples from everyone from Kanye West to Prince.

The crowd is going nuts behind me. Somebody's screaming for Jennifer Love-Hewitt. Not sure if she's actually here.

We'll be getting Diddy with it shortly. We hope.

Homes blend eco-friendliness, unique design

Theres been quite a buzz around town lately about energy and water conservation practices, and for years so-called green building has been a hit.
However a few homes in Truckee were built eco-friendly, not just to save heat and money, but because theyre just plain interesting.

One with the Earth
Sue and Jeff Cauhape have been living in their Tahoe Donner, earth berm home for 12 years. The couple maintains that, despite being for-the-most-part covered in dirt, their home is very bright and inviting.
Its not dark inside at all; we were surprised by how much light there was, Sue Cauhape said. We tried to sell it for two years, but I dont think a lot of people get the concept. Its odd, but weve been very comfortable here.
Comfort inside the home can be attributed to its thermal mass the walls absorb and retain heat, so the house requires neither heater nor air conditioner.

BobVila.com's Top 5 Energy-Saving Ideas for 2008

BOSTON, Jan. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Home improvement expert Bob Vila has been on the presidential campaign trail talking about energy efficiency. His popular web site shares five earth-friendly projects -- both large and small -- for your home in 2008.

1. Use energy-saving appliances. Refrigerators, freezers, dishwashers, furnaces, heat pumps, air conditioning units and water heaters all have high- efficiency models. Before buying a new appliance, compare labels to find one that uses the least amount of energy and water with the lowest operating costs. Appliances with the Energy Star label are up to 50 percent more efficient than standard models, saving you up to 30 percent on your electric bill. "I've been promoting Energy Star appliances for over a decade," Bob Vila says, "and it still makes sense to invest in them because of the energy savings you'll get."
